Links Page
This list isn't in alphabetical order. Or any order, really.
At the moment, you can visit:
- AussieSlang.com - Australian English tends to be something of a mix between UK and US, so here's another slant on things
- The French Slang Dictionary
- A dictionary of slang - some English
slang and colloquialisms of the UK. I'd rather you don't visit this site, actually, because it looks a
damned sight better than mine
- asterisks.com - although they provide commercial editing and translation services, they have an excellent selection of dictionary resource links
- Mike Etherington's English-to-American Dictionary - far be it from me to direct people to the opposition, but Mike's a good bloke and (though it pains me to admit it) his dictionary's quite a lot bigger than mine. It's been published in book form, too
- an Comunn Gaidhealach America - an American Gaelic site, including a useful English to Gaelic translator
- US2UK - a nicely laid out site that gives info on most of the differences between the US and the UK
- Ambrose Bierce's legendary Devil's Dictionary - fantastically funny and, thanks to its copyright expiring, now in the public domain
- The Online Dictionary of Playground Slang - nicely laid out, entertaining site
- English/Cockney Rhyming Slang Dictionary - a comprehensive list
- Get it Write - an well put-together, well informed and interesting biweekly writing tip mailing list of which I'm a member
- World Wide Words - Michael Quinion's entertaining and comprehensive site devoted to the investigation of all things wordy
- The Harry Potter Lexicon - of late a lot of my readers have come via the Harry Potter series of books; this admirably content-heavy site contains more than most people would care to know about the subject
- Harry Potter Word Wizard - a very interesting site (with audio examples) devoted to the pronounciation of the words in the Harry Potter series of books
- Alberto J. Miyara's Argentine-Spanish Dictionary - ok, I don't speak either of these languages either but Alberto told me my site inspired him to write this and us lexicographers have to stick together
- American Expats in the UK - a fine general resource for any septics who've moved over here
- Roger's Profanisaurus - the UK comic Viz's slightly more slang-oriented (and a good chunk more filthy) version of this
- The Free Dictionary - ok, so there are plenty of dictionary sites, but this one is nicely laid out and very content-focused
- webster-dictionary.org - not just a Webster dictionary, this one looks up a whole load of dictionary sites for each entry. No adverts, no junk. Top site, so I imagine it can't stay around for long
Okay, okay, don't give me a hard time - I'm sure plenty more will be just around the corner. Perhaps now you'd like to return to the slightly more expansive dictionary main page or even my homepage.
